Four names keeping the track open.
Romford Track
This is the scene of the crime, so to speak. The last dog track in London, holding six races per week all year round. Over the years, crowds have thinned, and the races mainly exist so betting shop screens have something to show.
Entain
The company that owns and runs Romford. Its name is on the stadium and on the trophies. Entain closed its other London track, Crayford, in January 2025. They could close Romford tomorrow. They are choosing not to.
GBGB
The industry’s own self-appointed regulator. It licenses Romford and it counts the dogs who die there. When Wales passed a law to end greyhound racing, GBGB took the Welsh Government to court to try to stop it. They lost.
Ladbrokes
Entain’s betting shops. Ladbrokes can be found all over. Betting is essentially the only thing keeping this cruel industry alive, which means every bet placed over those counters goes to keeping Romford open.
Email your MP to take action
And urge them to support the end of greyhound racing in England
Scotland has banned it. Wales has passed a law to end it. England is now the only nation in Great Britain that still allows this cruel industry to operate.
The Government’s position is that greyhound racing is adequately regulated by the industry itself. The industry’s own numbers say otherwise.
Why your MP matters
Animal protection policy sits with Defra. The minister responsible is Baroness Hayman of Ullock, who sits in the House of Lords, so members of the public cannot write to her as constituents. DEFRA Secretary of State is Dame Angela Eagle.
Your MP can create real pressure within Parliament and:
- Write directly to Defra ministers on your behalf
- Table written parliamentary questions forcing the Government to publish its assessment
- Speak in debates and sign Early Day Motions
- Publicly back a ban, which is what shifts a government position over time
